Oh Happy Day!

Here are a few pictures that we have taken during the last week. Avery took her first steps last Friday (14 August) and although I have some video of this, I am very technologically challenged and can't work out how to send it to you (I think it is too long and I don't know how to edit it!) So here is a picture of Avy standing up and being her usual cheeky self....

And I couldn't resist taking a snapshot of this moment - Sethi reading to his little sisters yesterday.

Brotherly Love

I love this photo of Sethi helping his little sister. The kids love playing with Avy and helping her to learn new things. Just lately Seth has started getting Avy out of her cot in the mornings when she wakes up and bringing her into my bed (where LuLu also resides!) And all three of us get to have an early morning snuggle!

Tee Pee Treasures

On the holidays the kids decided to have a tee pee picnic. Things started out pleasantly enough.....

Then Avery made sure she got in first.....

And then sat on all the food so nobody else stood a chance!

Despite all of this, it was a beautiful, warm winter day and we all had a lovely play outside in the sun.

The Salvos The Salvos where everyone gets a bargin!

Forget the warehouse come to the salvos! The Salvation army near where I live has all the bargins. I just love it. At the moment I am on the hunt for yet another breadmaker (for lisa) so I am visiting regularly (this may or may not be a good thing)

Todays bargin was this walker for Jozef.

He seems to like it. It cost me $8 yes you read that right $8. We ended up spending $10 on him today. We got him 2 remotes & a mouse (a computer one) as well. You see he loves to eat ours and now he can eat his instead! I also got a little airport set with an airport, plane, helicopter, 2 little trucks, trailer & 1 person...$2. Did I mention that I love that store!!!

Fun with the Waters - Days 4 to 10

I feel so bad that I haven't been on here to post about our fun times. We've had some good times but also a bad day which is what stopped my huge streak of 3 days in a row. This is a long one so you might want to grab a snack before you start reading. Like Trina, I've been a little down lately and it's being reflected in how I am with the kids. I need to keep finding the happy times so that I can be a better, happier mum for my children.

Day 4 - I was boring and I actually didn't do anything fun with the kids. I just hid away and let them play. And that's what they did. They had a great time playing with the neighbours in our backyard and just running 'free'.

Day 5 - Each Thursday afternoon we go to the park after school. Most weeks we have other friends from church who meet us there but the last 2 weeks it has just been us. This time we decided to go exploring and so the kids hopped on their scooters and we went along the walking track. I have been really slack with remembering to take the camera everywhere so I didn't get any photos but this Thursday I will. There is a bridge that we went over and the kids thought it was fun to hear the loud noise the wheels made as they went over. They also loved going down the hills and going fast along the track.

Day 6 - This was just another day at home. Sometimes it's good just to have the time to sit back and relax. The kids took it easy and we just had a relaxing time after school.

Day 7 - Nigel had some important "business" to attend to with his brother and his wife (you'll have to ask him about that) on Saturday afternoon so the kids and I went to Andrew and Nichola's to be with their kids. I think all of us were enjoying ourselves until we discovered that Leah and Grace had made an awful mess in her bedroom. Books, dolls, crayons, chalk, water and rat poo covered the floor. And yes, you read it right, rat poo. They have 2 pet rats and Grace likes to play with them. They had Tim, the rat, in the room letting him run free. I don't think that he thought he was free though. We didn't discover that he was out until I went into the bathroom to see them giggling near the bath and saw what looked like a soft toy in the bath. I quickly asked Maddy if Tim was allowed to be put in the bath and since he wasn't she asked Grace to get him out. Poor Tim is petrified of the bath so when Grace got him out he was clawing her a bit to get as far out as possible. In fright, Grace threw Tim and he landed straight back in the bath. He was so scared he nearly jumped right back out. I never thought I would feel sorry for a rat but he was just shaking all over and his little heart was racing. Poor thing. So after trying to tidy the room and clean up wet chalk from white carpet (without success) we headed home.

Day 8 - Sunday is always a busy day. I guess it's not too busy but it seems like it is because we go to church and have the task of trying to keep 3 fidgeting children quiet while we attempt to listen to words of wisdom and counsel. This Sunday was actually a good church day for us. We mad it through the whole sacrament meeting without having to take any of the children out. Yay! I got to listen to the testimonies shared by others and they were really good. I learned a lot about the people in our ward and the thoughts they shared showed their humble nature and the true desire to know more about our Saviour and Father in Heaven.

Sunday night we had a missionary fireside for our ward and that is when the 'fun' began. It started at 6pm and Nigel had to sing a song and I played the piano for him. There weren't many people there which was a bit disappointing but also a relief because it meant not many had to see my lovely children be not so lovely. There were 2 talks before the musical item and in that time I had to take William out a number of times and keep Leah from complaining too loudly about it taking too long before supper (dessert was provided afterwards). She had used up 2 chances and if I she was noisy and complaining again about the food then she would have to miss out.

Then we were up and the fun began. I don't know if Nigel was aware of this but this is what happened. We had to have someone watch Will for us and the only one that was available was our friend sitting on the stand (she was the chorister) so that's where he sat. He was quite good. It was Leah that made it interesting. She decided that she had to sit up there too. But that lasted for the first verse of the song and then she came to me at the piano and then went back up on the stand and then thought it would be good to come half way over to me and call out (probably loud enough for all to hear) "mum is it dessert yet?" I felt so embarrassed. I am just glad that I was able to keep playing well enough for Nigel to get through the song.

Then after the song I had to tell Leah that she wasn't getting any dessert and then her fog horn siren of a cry began. Out we went and it was only by further bribery that I got her to stop crying. Sometimes I feel like such a bad mother. Why does it have to be so hard?

Day 9 - Brisbane Model Train Exhibition - This was a fun day for the kids and they enjoyed seeing all the different types of trains and how it was all set up. I must admit that I liked it as much as Henry. Leah was less enthusiastic and kept asking when we were going home, William just wanted to carry the back pack that weighed almost as much as him and made it very hard to then carry him. After reminding ourselves to take the camera, we forgot it! So all we have are a few very poor mobile phone shots. I just have to figure out how to get them on to the computer now.

Day 10 - Another one of those hiding away days for me. I do hope my children love me and know that I love them. I really do want to be with them but sometimes it's hard to when I feel like I have so many other things that need to be done.

Day 11 - That's tomorrow (Wednesday). I am planning on walking to school to get the kids and then we'll all walk home. I'll take their scooters with me and hopefully we'll have a great time just wandering home. That's the plan anyway. I'll let you know how I go.

DAY 13

I came into the kids bedroom tonight to see what they were up to and this is how I found them. Sethi and LuLu just crack me up sometimes!

I know that it has been a few days since I have posted a grateful moment. I think that I have been feeling quite down on myself which in turn has caused a serious lack of gratitude. It seems to be quite easy to not find things to be grateful for and I am disappointed in myself for not continuing what I started. So I have decided to press forward despite these feelings. I have found happiness in starting this project and I know that happiness will continue to grow if I find more things to be grateful for. I hope you don't mind reading my ramblings!

my photo of the day

Marty and I went on a date last night (kinda - jozef came too). We went down to the river and had a little walk and then had fish and chips for dinner. I saw this couple and I had to take a picture (I hope they don't mind). They were just sitting there talking enjoying a drink together. I hope that Marty and I can always remember to take time to ourselves and enjoy the sunsets of life.

Fun with the Waters - Day 3

Playing in the 'fort'

Well this is what the kids did with their plastic play equipment. They gathered it all together and made their own 'fort'. William was the bad guy running around after them with his gun (the big red plastic thing he's holding) and everyone else (including the girl from next door) ran away from him and hid in the fort for safety.

Every now and then the good guys would shoot the bad guy and there would be a dramatic death scene. I don't know where he learned it from but William's dying act is quite good. He drops his gun, staggers for a few steps, collapses to his knees and falls on his back will his arms and legs spread. He continues to act dead even when the others come over to check if he's dead. This however, is when he jumps up and starts chasing them again. This is also when the screaming and squealing begins again.

I'm glad I'm taking the time to see what is fun in the Waters' house. A week ago I would have missed that game because I was "too busy".

Fun with the Waters - Day 2

This is for yesterday as I didn't get around to posting it.

You're probably wondering what this is? Well it's the back end of Leah's guinea pig Fairy. The kids have discovered their guinea pigs again and were playing with them. They were having a great time feeding them and holding them and then they had the idea to put grass in the cup holder of the folding chair. The guinea pigs, Fairy and Fluffy, promptly dived in after it and all that could be seen were two little furry bottoms. The kids thought it was hilarious. It was! And from underneath, through the mesh, all you could see these little squashed guinea pig faces. I'm not sure if the guinea pigs thought it was funny, but they kept getting back in there!

Fun with the Waters - Day 1

This is what the kids had fun doing today. We decided to make chocolate cupcakes and they helped me clean up. Hang on, maybe they were just getting as much of a "taste" as they could.

I have to post 2 pictures as this is how they didn't help clean up!
I had to remember that they were having fun and not worry about how messy they were getting. It was fun for me too. Watching them enjoy the simple fact of licking the bowl. Oh to be young again and be so easily pleased.

365 Days of Gratitude

This is a great idea that I read about in Notebook Magazine recently....

A woman who lives in Brisbane and is a photographer decided to start a project to help increase her gratitude and help with her feelings of melancholy/depression. She used a Polaroid camera to take a photo every day for a year of something that she was grateful for that day. I was really drawn to this article and have been thinking about it a lot since I read it and have decided that I would like to do the same however, I don't know if I can commit to a whole year! So I have decided to do 7 days of gratitude and see how I go. I hope you don't mind but I will be sharing my photos and thoughts with you all each day for the next week. So, day 1 here I go......

I absolutely LOVE the crazy places that we find Avery at the moment. I can't help but have a good laugh! Here are just a few of her favourite spots from yesterday and today.

Nothing's cuter than a sleeping child..........

......................except a sleeping child in a laundry basket????

William won't go to sleep in his bed lately. He tries to come onto our bed or sneak out next to us wherever we are at the time. I don't even hear him sometimes. I've found him asleep in the hallway, on the floor next to the computer desk (where I've been sitting) and the other night this is how I found him.

He must have decided that sleeping in the laundry basket beside his bed was a better option than sleeping in his bed. He was sound asleep and didn't even flinch when I put him into his bed. What a funny boy!

Is he lucky or unlucky?

I went to the Alfresco cafe today with some of the playgroup people. And this happened....

One of the girls with me seemed to think that it was good luck to have a bird poo on your head. I don't know if I agree. I think that it was lucky that I had some wipes with me. Either way Jozef didn't seem to mind at all. He didn't even make a fuss when it happened.
